Download the app

Once you download the study app, you will have a phone screening with the study team to learn more about the study and answer further qualifying questions. Starting the study as soon as your cold symptoms have begun is very important, so please respond to the study team’s call right away!

Participate

If you qualify, you’ll be shipped the nasal spray then asked to use it and complete surveys in the app about your symptoms each day for up to 8 days. Participants are eligible to be compensated up to £80 in shopping vouchers on study completion for their time and participation.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you complete all required activities, up to £80 in shopping vouchers is available to be paid to you. If you are eligible to participate, you will receive £20 in shopping vouchers upon completion of baseline symptom and quality of life assessments. You will receive the remaining £60 in shopping vouchers at the end of this study, which will be after 7 days of Otrivine use or once your symptoms resolve, whichever comes first.
If chosen to participate, you will need to download the study app to your smartphone to complete study activities. You’ll be asked to use the study treatment provided as per label instruction. You may use the treatment for a maximum of 7 days, applying 1 spray to each nostril up to 3 times daily.
You will also need to complete surveys about your symptoms in the app each day for up to 8 days.
No, the study treatment is provided to participants at no cost.
The study treatment is a medicine, Otrivine Congestion Relief Nasal Spray. It is a nasal spray which is available to buy over the counter. Its active ingredients is xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.1% w/v).
As per label instruction, when you have congestion (blocked nose, including colds)
As per the label instructions, spray one time in each nostril up to 3 times per day until resolution of symptoms or up to a maximum of 7 days, whichever occurs first.
